What is Presbyopia?

Presbyopia is an age-related vision condition that causes near objects to appear blurry. It typically starts in a personโ€™s 40โ€™s, when the lens of the eye begins to stiffen and lose flexibility. This makes it difficult to focus on nearby objects.

Presbyopia can significantly impact your quality of life. Regular daily activities like reading books, instruction manuals and food labels, scrolling through your phone, threading a needle and other close-up tasks can become daunting.

The good news is, with the help of Eyes on Lincoln - Vision Studio, this common vision condition can be effectively managed, so you wonโ€™t have to compromise on your quality of life.

    • Bifocal contact lenses: different sections for reading and distance prescriptions
    • Monovision contact lenses: distance prescription in one eye and reading prescription in the other eye

Presbyopia Diagnosis Treatment FAQs

What is presbyopia treatment?

Presbyopia treatment corrects age-related farsightedness to enable you to see close-up objects, such as books and electronic screens more clearly. Treatments include:

  • Eyeglasses
  • Contact lenses
  • Laser surgery
  • Lens implants
Can presbyopia be cured?

Currently, there is no cure. The good news is that our optometrists can recommend a variety of treatment options to help you see your best, from near to far.

How do I know if I have presbyopia?

If you’re over 40 and struggle with any of the following, you may have presbyopia.

  • Holding a book or a screen at arm’s length to see it more clearly
  • Needing larger print or font size to read
  • Blurry vision while reading
  • Difficulty reading in dim light
  • Eye strain and headaches when focusing on near objects

If you have one or more of these signs, schedule an eye exam and ask us about glasses, contact lenses, or other presbyopia treatment options.

Are bifocals right for me?

If itโ€™s hard for you to read and to see things at a distance, bifocals may be your perfect solution. With bifocals, you can get two prescriptions in one. One corrects farsightedness and the other corrects nearsightedness. We offer several different types of bifocal lenses to suit your personal preference.

I saw Dr. Weber for the first time this week for my annual eye appt. and he has demonstrated the hig... hest quality of care. His personable approach makes it easy to know that the care you receive reaches beyond the objectivity of an eye check-up. I'm very grateful for his listening ear and his commitment to look for solutions to improve my experience wearing contacts, while also being mindful of my goals and priorities. I had been wearing prescribed contacts for about a year, but my eyes were not seeing well. This was true to my experiences post-childbirth. My eyes have never been the same and contacts have given me problems, making it difficult to maintain an active lifestyle. After listening to my journey, he patiently brought me several different contacts to try and tested my vision in each one. To him, it was important to look beyond the data, because he could discern my eyes were responding in an atypical way. This is what makes Dr. Weber exceptional. As I left the office wearing the pair that we settled on, I had no idea just how remarkably different I was able to see until I drove away! My vision is crystal clear in contacts for the first time in over 18 years! My eyes felt great throughout the day and I was able to keep them in for 13 hours with perfect comfort. This is a result of Dr. Weber's intent to see me through the process of problem-solving while remaining patient and hopeful to discover a solution. Thank you, Dr. Weber!

Beautiful office and a prime location! I can appreciate the fact that both locations are near a bus ... route :). And I can tell that customer care is very important to them because every single employee I've encountered at both places has been genuinely kind, professional and pleasant. Those are characteristics some employers don't look for or assume can be trained, but they're inherent traits. So THANK YOU Dr. Weber and your staff!
